Precautions to Decrease Bruising & Bleeding

Please make sure that we know about ALL medications (prescription & non-prescription including vitamins, supplements, herbs, anti-aging preparations or any “recreational” drugs you are taking. Your safety depends on it. Please consult with us before stopping any prescribed medications. Several medications below affect your blood’s ability to clot and could promote bleeding or bruising during or after the Procedure(s). This may slow recovery and make you look worse than necessary during early post procedure period. For 2 weeks prior to and 1 week afterwards, we recommend you discontinue as many of these medications as possible. This is especially true for aspirin and alcohol. Check the labels of your medications, even those available without a prescription, to make sure you are not taking any aspirin or aspirin-like substances. Ask us if you’re not sure.

Following are the more common medications that can increase your tendency to bleed. Let us know if you are taking any of them:

4 Way Cold Tabs, Coricidin, Naprosyn, Advil, Coumadin, Norgesic, Alcohol, Darvon, Nuprin, Aleve, Darvon with ASA, Percodan, Alka Seltzer, Dolobid, Persantine, Anacin, Dristan, Phenaphen, Anaprox, Ecotrin, Rufin, Empirin, Sine Aid, APC, Emprazil, Sineoff, Aspirin, Excedrin, Trandate, Ascodeen, Herbal Tea, Trilisate, Ascriptin, Herbs , Trigesic, Botanical Liquid, Ibuprofen, Vanquish, Bufferin, Indocin, Zactrin, Cherocol Caps, Indomethacin, Zorpin, Children’ Aspirin, Medipren, Edhinacia, Congesprin, Midol, Cope, Motrin


If you need any minor pain medication, please take acetaminophen (Tylenol) or another non-aspirin medication. Tylenol has a comparable pain relief potential to that of aspirin. If you’re allergic to Tylenol, please notify us so that we can offer a substitute.

  • Kiwi/pineapple fruit has been known to help decrease bruising. Assuming that you’re not allergic, eat 2 (kiwi or pineapple) per day starting 1 week prior to your Procedure and for 1 week following.
  • Arnica ( oral or topical) – can be found in whole food markets
  • SinEcch™ contains Arnica and can decrease bruising.
  • Repairen™ supplements lessen the chances of bruising and speed healing.
